# Space Mushroom > The open materials platform. Anyone can search any material and see what is known about it, with every number sourced. Space performance (radiation, atomic oxygen, vacuum, extreme heat and cold) is the priority lens. Every number links to a published source (mostly NASA technical reports). Records are YAML "spores" released under CC BY 4.0. ## Data - [Materials](https://spacemushroom.com/materials/): material passports. Currently 40 polymers and pyrolytic graphite flown 3.95 years outside the ISS on NASA's MISSE 2 (2001-2005), with measured atomic oxygen erosion yields. - [MISSE 2 erosion yields (CSV)](https://spacemushroom.com/data/misse2_peace_erosion_yield.csv): source: NASA/TM-2008-215490, Table I. - [Failures](https://spacemushroom.com/failures/): sourced records of material failures in space, with cause confidence and evidence. ## Format - [Spore format](https://spacemushroom.com/spore-format/): the record schema. Status is "measured" or "prediction"; predictions are never presented as measurements. ## Notes for use - "Thickness lost" values are computed by Space Mushroom (erosion yield x mission fluence); erosion yields are NASA's measurements. - Values marked ">" are lower bounds: the sample eroded completely through.
